Background
The historic Town of Axbridge is a hive of entrepreneurs and successful businesses.
Fifty years ago Axbridge was a thriving town with a high street and square full of shops and businesses. Driving through the town today one could be mistaken in thinking that it is a sleepy historic dormitory town. However the truth is that behind the fronts of the old and new buildings is a thriving business community ranging from new enterprises to more long standing companies.
Forty companies have already been located in the community with new ones being discovered every day. Businesses in Axbridge range from small and medium businesses, limited companies, partnerships, sole traders and franchises.
It is important that the local businesses have a voice in the community, a place to promote their business as well as mutual support. The Town council has encouraged the forming of a Chamber of Commerce for Axbridge. The Parish Plan questionnaire also highlighted that a number of people worked from home in Axbridge. The Chamber is now in the process of being set up, two meeting have already been held to decide on a constitution as well as planning an AGM for May. The business community is a big asset to any community and in Axbridge it has been an untapped resource for the last few years.
The Chamber of Commerce will be an important factor in the growth and survival of an active and thriving Axbridge community.
