Axbridge Singers
|
Do you like to sing, sing, sing? The Axbridge Singers is an open access community choir for anyone who enjoys singing. You don't need to have experience or the ability to read music, and there are no auditions. The choir sings unaccompanied, in four-part harmony. The songbook includes music from far and wide - from popular, to folk, to gospel, to show tunes, in languages from English to Basque and even Russian! There are regular public performances, at local events including the farmers' markets and the Somerset Showcase. The choir also takes part in regional singing festivals. The Axbridge Singers are led by Musical Director Stella Moore. |

History The choir began life as a gathering in a living room, but as the number of members grew, it relocated – first to Compton House, and then to the church in the Square. There
are now over 40 singers in the choir, from Cheddar, Winscombe,
Churchill, Weston-Super-Mare and Wells as well as from Axbridge. Recordings
In 2009, the choir recorded a CD to raise funds
towards the 2010 Axbridge Pageant. Copies are still available (£5) from the
choir - see contact details below. Members The choir meets every Thursday in term-time, 7.20pm - 8:45pm, in St. John's Church, Axbridge Square. If you love singing, or think you might just like to try it, do come and join us - new members are always welcome. Come along to a Thursday rehearsal, or for more information, contact either:
Members pay a £10 subscription every six months. Last rehearsal this term - Thursday 15th December 2011 Upcoming performances | ||
